Mandy Hunt ACII – Chief Underwriting Officer, RSA
Mandy is the Chief Underwriting Officer at RSA for the Commercial Risk Solutions business having previously been the Managing Director of Insurance Corporation of the Channel Island business since 2015. Prior to joining RSA in 1998, Mandy worked for Willis and Lambert Fenchurch and is an Associate of the CII and helped Insurance Corporation achieve Chartered Status in 2018. People development has always been a critical area for Mandy, and she is a big advocate of the CII and achieving professional qualifications.
Janet Edey FCII – Head of Management Liability UK & Ireland, Chubb
Janet is a highly experienced insurance industry leader with specialisms in Liability and Financial Lines. She has led underwriting divisions at large, primary insurers during the most innovative periods in the development of these classes. Her roles have encompassed setting and executing growth and restructure strategies at three Lloyd’s syndicates as well as starting from scratch and building a successful Financial Lines and Specialty division at an underwriting agency. Janet is currently UK and Ireland Head of Management Liability at Chubb, based in London. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and holds the Institute of Directors’ Certificate in Company Direction.
Nick Hankin ACII – Director of Risk & Governance UKGI, Aviva UK
Nick joined Aviva as Underwriting Effectiveness Director in January 2013 having overall responsibility for underwriting, pricing and product development governance, underwriting change initiatives, e- trading, Aviva’s academy for underwriting and pricing, and Fraud management.
In June 2014, he was appointed to the new role of Director of GI Council, driving implementation of key strategic initiatives across the Aviva GI business. His role included leading the Managing Committee of Climatewise. In 2017 Nick added on an interim basis the role of Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) for the UKGI Commercial Lines business. Nick currently leads the 1st line risk & governance team for UKGI and chairs IQUO, an IT services business and UK Life Services for Aviva.
Prior to joining Aviva, Nick led the SME Profit Centre for Europe for AIG. He has held several senior leadership roles previously at RSA, Zurich and AXA. Nick has been a member of the CII Underwriting Faculty Board since 2009 and a member of the CII Professional Standards Board for General Insurance since 2015. In addition to a degree in History he holds the ACII and has an MBA from Cass Business School.
Sophie Ezadkhasty ACII – Underwriter, Energy Casualty, Swiss Re Corporate Solutions
Sophie has 10 years’ worth of experience since graduating from Cass Business School in 2009. Sophie has attained experience in both the Lloyd's and company market and is now the lead underwriter for Energy Casualty business in London for Swiss Re, Corporate Solutions.
Before joining Swiss Re Corporate Solutions in 2015, she worked on the international strategy pioneering and leading meetings across Latin America and Asia to implement the Vision 2025 strategy of Lloyd's of London. Sophie commenced her insurance career at Aegis London for five years.
Sophie has obtained international work experience in China, the US and Singapore and offers a fresh modern ethos towards insurance. Sophie is also a mentor to new joiners to the insurance sector.
Sophie is extremely passionate about learning and is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII). Sophie was recognised for her talents and was part of the highly esteemed CII New Development Programme in 2018.
Paul Harris ACII, Chartered Insurer – Underwriter, Professional Indemnity, ArgoGlobal
Paul is a Professional Indemnity Underwriter at ArgoGlobal and has amassed more than ten years underwriting experience in the London Market. In this time, Paul has also underwritten, Financial Institutions business, Directors’ and Officers’ Liability insurance and other Management Liability products.
Having graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2007, his first experience within the industry was as a Household Underwriter. Paul became a Chartered Insurer in 2012 and participated on the CII Disciplinary Committee between 2013 and 2019. As a Board Member of the Society of Underwriting Professionals, Paul is looking forward to helping the underwriting profession as it goes through the changes that are currently being seen within the insurance industry.
David Williams FCII, Chartered Insurer – Managing Director, Underwriting & Technical Services, AXA Insurance UK
David has over 30 years’ experience in General Insurance, and is part of the AXA Insurance Executive Committee having held a wide variety of roles including Chief Commercial Underwriter, Reinsurance Manager, Casualty Insurance Manager, Managing Director Claims and Managing Director Underwriting.
David leads AXA’s work on Connected & Autonomous Vehicles, including work with five Government backed Consortia. He sits on the Association of British Insurers GIC and is Chair of the Autonomous Driving Group. He also Chairs RISCAuthority, the CII Underwriting Faculty, is a Board Member of the Fire Protection Association, and is a Non-Executive Director of AXA Assistance UK. He was previously a board member of Thatcham, the Motor Vehicle Research centre.
Tony Hutchins FCII, Chartered Insurer – Underwriting Director, Ecclesiastical UK
Tony has worked in the insurance industry for 40 years and held several senior underwriting positions at Aviva, Allianz and AXA with expertise in commercial property insurance, before taking on his current role with Ecclesiastical in 2014.
Tony has always been a keen supporter of the CII and was a CII senior examiner on one of the ACII papers for five years while working at Aviva. He was an active member of the ABI Property Steering Committee for many years up until 2014.
Tony lives with his family in Kent and his interests include renovating old properties, overseas travel and music.
Phil Williams ACII, Chartered Insurer – Managing Director, MGA, Simply Business
Phil loves insurance and fantastic customer experiences and what better way to combine his passions than by helping lead a technology company that delivers SME's protection on two continents. Phil has been part of the management team at Simply Business for 5 years where he has looked after pricing, strategy and operations prior to taking his current role as Managing Director - MGA. Before joining Simply Business Phil spent 10 years in roles throughout the insurance value chain from broking to banking, insurance company to aggregation.
Phil is an ACII and Chartered Insurer, holds an MBA from Cranfield School of Management and a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Bath. He's a passionate supporter of Arsenal football club and lives in Hertfordshire with his wife and two sons.
Michael Muzio – Chief Executive, now4cover
Michael is an insurance innovator. Even from the humble beginnings in 1999 as a graduate trainee at ITT London & Edinburgh he has always been keen to challenge the status quo. This included designing products for the first ever small commercial quote comparison service.
He then joined Towergate in 1999 and over the following 14 years helped build and shape it into Europe’s largest privately-owned intermediary. Key to this was the ability to use technology and data transforming it into business value. During that time, he gained an MBA with distinction studying at Cass Business School. In 2013 he founded now4cover, a digital, full stack personal lines intermediary.
Karen Shaw – Head of Commercial Underwriting, NFU Mutual Insurance
Karen joined NFU Mutual in 2011 as Commercial Pricing Manager, and has been in her current role for 3 years, where she is responsible for leading the development and implementation of Commercial Underwriting vision, strategy, policies and procedures across the general insurance business, providing management and oversight of commercial lines insurance risks. In her previous role at Zurich Insurance she held various roles across the Global Corporate Underwriting, Finance and Sales teams based in the City of London. Karen is based in Stratford-upon-Avon and enjoys Pilates, gardening and a spot of Zumba now and again.
